Hot Water Tank Replacement
One of the most common problems in a house in Edmonton, Sherwood Park or elsewhere is what do you do when your water heater quits working, or worse springs a leak and starts to flood your basement?
Depending on the age of your house the shut off valve above the tank will either be a globe valve or a ball valve. Turn that off. Then turn the dial on the water heater to vacation mode. This will leave the pilot on but will shut down most of the gas.
If you still hear water going into the tank you will need to now shut off the main valve coming into the house.
You should always know where both of these valves are. If you don't then you are like a lot of people. I'm guessing you ended up on this page because you have a problem with your water heater. But you should do your friends and family a favor and send them to this page so they can see what they might need to look for in the future.
Now that you have your hot water tank shut off you need to give us a call at 780-264-0878 right away.
We will do our best to get to you as fast as possible.
You might be disappointed but tanks do not last as long as before. When I started plumbing a water heater would last 20 to 25 or even 30 years. Now tanks only last between 8 and 12 years. As an experienced plumber I am guessing that the reason for this is hot water tank manufacturers thought "Why give a 6 year warrantee and have a tank last over 20 years?" Like anything today products do not last as long.
Water Heater Warrantees
Something else you need to know is the warrantee on the tank is 6 years, but the warrantee on any of the parts is only 2 years and the labor is only 1 year. Today if the main valve in the tank breaks after 3 years the cost of replacing does not make any sense. Better off putting in a new John Wood water heater here in Edmonton or Sherwood Park.
With 33 years of plumbing experience I have found that John Wood is one of the best name brands you can go with. I will install others if you like but this is definitely my favorite.
